Tax Reform Offers Opportunities for Advocacy

“Tax reform will be a major priority for the Trump administration. With Republicans’ razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate, we anticipate opportunities to support tax reform that brings resources to housing and community development nonprofits and the places they serve,” said Policy Director Dawne Troupe. The Neighborhood Homes Investment Act (NHIA) has gained momentum with more than 100 bipartisan co-sponsors in the House and Senate. The Act would create a new tax credit to produce new equity investment dollars for developing and renovating homes in distressed urban, suburban, and rural neighborhoods. We will champion the NHIA in the next session and also work to protect funding levels for the Low Income Housing Tax Credit.

“It is more important than ever to share your success stories with your representatives in Congress,” said Troupe. “Demonstrating how tax credits improve the lives of their constituents and the neighborhoods where they live is one of the most effective ways to educate lawmakers and affect change.” Watch for action alerts in the new year.
